Senior Living Architecture

SB&A provides full architectural and design services on several senior living facilities including Independent Living cottages and apartments, Assisted Living units, Assisted Living Memory Care units, Skilled Nursing facilities and Skilled Nursing Memory Care facilities. Many of our projects have included a number of these levels of care with a single project or development which is known as a Continuum of Care Retirement Community or “CCRC”.

Design of senior living facilities for today and the future moves away from tradition medical models where a facility will have the look and feel of a hospital or institution with long, endless corridors broken only by the occasional nurse’s station that is behind an imposing wall. Instead, we focus on the hospitality model, so that facility resembles a vacation resort both in looks and the amenities that it provides to its residents. Multiple dining venues are provided within a facility to provide more choice and opportunity for residents to socialize. Assisted living and skilled care facilities require licenses from their state to operate as health care providers. As architects, we shepherd projects through the regulatory process.
